"In 2002, a Houston, Texas pest exterminator named Tom Raspberry encountered an army of ants he had never seen before. He observed that these ants were running around in senseless patterns, leading him to think that “they were crazy.” The incident was the first reported outbreak of these new types of ants, that's why they're often referred to as Raspberry Crazy Ants. Since then, crazy ants have invaded 24 counties in Texas and continue to spread rapidly throughout the southern states, including Florida. According to knowledgeable Jacksonville ant control specialists, they have invaded at least 20 counties in the Sunshine State. Researchers say that these ants invade people's homes, nest in crawl spaces and walls, and feast on electrical equipment. When the ants get electrocuted, they give off a distinct scent and attract more ants to the home."
